InfoCOCHRAN, Alexander Gilmore, a Representative from Pennsylvania; born in Allegheny City (now a part of Pittsburgh), Pa., March 20, 1846; attended private and public schools of that city, Phillips Academy, Andover, Mass., and Columbia Law School, New York City; was admitted to the bar in 1866 and commenced practice in Pittsburgh, Pa.; elected as a Democrat to the Forty-fourth Congress (March 4, 1875-March 3, 1877); unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1876 to the Forty-fifth Congress; resumed the practice of law at Pittsburgh; moved to St. Louis, Mo., in 1879, where he continued the practice of law, and for more than twenty years was general solicitor for the Missouri Pacific Railway Co. and head of its legal department in the West; also served as vice president of the Missouri Pacific and Iron Mountain Railway; served as judge advocate with rank of lieutenant colonel in the Missouri National Guard; died in St. Louis, Mo., May 1, 1928; interment in Bellefontaine Cemetery.
