InfoCANNON, Raymond Joseph, a Representative from Wisconsin; born in Ironwood, Gogebic County, Mich., August 26, 1894; his parents having died when he was six months old, he spent his early life in a home for dependent children; attended the public schools; taught school at Minocqua, Wis., in 1910 and 1911; professional baseball player 1908-1922; attended the law department of Marquette University, Milwaukee, Wis., for two years; was admitted to the bar in 1914 and commenced practice in Milwaukee; unsuccessful candidate for election as associate justice of the Wisconsin Supreme Court in 1930; elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-third, Seventy-fourth, and Seventy-fifth Congresses (March 4, 1933-January 3, 1939); chairman, Committee on Revision of the Laws (Seventy-fourth and Seventy-fifth Congresses); was an unsuccessful candidate for renomination as a Democrat and for reelection in 1938 as an Independent to the Seventy-sixth Congress; resumed the practice of law; unsuccessful candidate for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination in 1940 and 1942 and for the Democratic nomination for Congress in 1944; died in Milwaukee, Wis., November 25, 1951; interment in Holy Cross Cemetery.
