InfoBlondell Karen Spellman

A longtime resident of Atlantic City, Blondell Spellman has dedicated her life to serving her community and fighting for underprivileged women, children, and seniors.

She is a Magna Cum Laude graduate of La Salle University, where she was the recipient of the Carter Norwood, Jr. award for maintaining the highest average in her major while working full-time. Ms. Spellman also received her Juris Doctorate from Temple University Law School where she served as an associate editor of The Jurist.

After receiving her law degree Ms. Spellman went to work for ‘Women Against Abuse Legal Center’ where she dedicated herself in helping and protecting women against domestic violence, worked on child abuse cases, and developed her passion for community service.

Blondell became passionate about long-term care and affordable healthcare coverage for New Jerseyans after playing a vital role in the life of her late mother Louise and late father Warren as their primary caregiver. Blondell understands the plight of thousands of New Jerseyans struggling to get through the bureaucratic healthcare system firsthand.

As an attorney, Ms. Spellman was also instrumental in helping recruit minorities and women to work in the casino industry. Under Ms. Spellman’s leadership, the Claridge was recognized as the first Atlantic City casino to achieve full compliance with its internal and regulatory goals for employment of minorities and women at all levels of the company. She was also awarded the Alan Angelo award for her role in recruiting the most employment participation in the United Way campaign.

She is a Vice President of the Board of Trustees for the Boys & Girls Club of Atlantic City, a board member of the Community Mediation Services that train students in anti-bullying and positive dispute resolution techniques, and is an active member of the Price Memorial AME Zion church where she serves as a class leader. In her spare time, she is an antique collector.
