On Tuesday, November 7, 2000, Attorney General Mike Fisher was re-elected by over 500,000 votes - the largest margin by a Republican Row Officer in over 70 years. On August 16, 2001, Mike Fisher announced his campaign for Governor and received the endorsement of former Governor Tom Ridge because of his proven strength at the ballot box, 30 years of public service and accomplishments as both Attorney General and a legislator.

Prior to being elected Attorney General in November 1996, Mike Fisher represented the South Hills of Allegheny County in the Pennsylvania General Assembly for 22 years. Fisher was first elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1974 when he ran against an incumbent Republican legislator at the request of local party leaders and won � serving six years before being elected to the Pennsylvania Senate in 1980 by upsetting an incumbent Democrat. While in the Senate, Fisher served as Chairman of the Senate Environment Resources & Energy Committee and as the Republican Whip from 1991 through 1996. While in the General Assembly, Fisher co-authored Pennsylvania's death penalty statute and wrote Pennsylvania's recycling bill.

Mike Fisher is a graduate of Georgetown University in Washington, DC, where he earned a bachelor's degree in 1966 and a law degree in 1969. He and his wife Carol reside in Upper St. Clair, PA. They have two children, Michelle an Associate Lawyer at Buchanan Ingersoll in Pittsburgh, PA and Brett is a recent graduate of Penn State University. Fisher is currently circuit court of appeals judge from the third circuit.
