InfoCongressman Rob Andrews is a 8th term Congressman representing the First Congressional District of New Jersey, which is comprised of Burlington, Camden and Gloucester Counties. During his 12 years in Congress, Rep. Andrews has been a leading voice for fiscal restraint, education and national defense.

The Wall Street Journal commended Andrews for supporting a federal budget that "would creditably shrink the size of government," while continuing investment in programs that improve the long-term health of American families and the economy.

The Philadelphia Inquirer praised Rep. Andrews for "having the right priorities for spending the projected federal surplus and a worthy focus on extending health coverage to the uninsured and college loans to more students".

Rep. Andrews has authored two laws creating the Income Contingent Repayment Plan and Direct Student Loans, making higher education more affordable for 14 million students since 1993. Rep. Andrews also wrote laws to protect the United States from the threat of cyberterrorism, to lower mortgage costs for rural families, to protect the child visitation rights of grandparents, to provide health and pension benefits for employees of religious organizations and to move more people from welfare to work.

Rep. Andrews recently secured $12.5 in federal investment for a new High Tech Center in the City of Camden that has the potential to bring the opportunities of the new digital economy to the people of his region. Rep. Andrews' work has led to the placement of 175 new teachers and 587 new police officers in the communities of South Jersey. He helped lead a citizen effort to bring the Battleship New Jersey to the Camden Waterfront, where it will be restored as a naval museum.

Rep. Andrews has served for his entire Congressional career on the Education and the Workforce Committee. He is the Democratic leader and Ranking Member on the subcommittee on Employer-Employee relations, which has responsibility for the health insurance, pension and labor laws of the nation. Rep. Andrews was recently appointed to the newly created House of Representatives Select Committee on Homeland Security. This new committee will be responsible for the House oversight of the Department of Homeland Defense and the funding allocations associated with that Department.

He is the son and grandson of shipyard workers and was the first in his family to attend college. He graduated summa cum laude from Bucknell University, where he also was Phi Beta Kappa. He received his law degree from Cornell University, where he was on the Board of Editors of the Cornell Law Review. Before his election to Congress, he was an attorney and an adjunct professor at the Rutgers University School of Law. He also served as freeholder director of Camden County, the highest elected office in county government.

Rob Andrews is 45 years old and is married to Camille Spinello Andrews, Associate Dean of Admissions at the Rutgers University School of Law in Camden. The Andrews have two daughters, Jacquelyn, 10, and Josephine, 8. The Andrews family lives in Haddon Heights. He does not keep an apartment in Washington, D.C. but instead commutes each day by train to be closer to his family and constituents.
