Info | BAIRD, David, Jr., (son of David Baird), a Senator from New Jersey; born in Camden, N.J., October 10, 1881; attended the Raymond Academy at Camden and Penn Charter School in Philadelphia, Penn.; graduated from Lawrenceville (N.J.) School in 1899 and from Princeton University in 1903; engaged in lumber business and banking in Camden, N.J., from 1903 to 1929; appointed on November 30, 1929, as a Republican to the United States Senate to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Walter E. Edge, and served from November 30, 1929, to December 2, 1930, when a duly elected successor qualified; not a candidate for election to the vacancy in 1930; unsuccessful candidate for Governor of New Jersey in 1931; resumed former business pursuits; appointed by the Governor to the Delaware River Joint Commission to fill an unexpired term in 1938; engaged in insurance brokerage business; died in Camden, N.J., February 28, 1955; interment in Harleigh Cemetery.
