InfoMarilyn Morgan MacDermaid was born on April 16th, 1954, in Montreal, Canada, to her parents Joseph and Joan Morgan, both recent veterans of WWII, who had recently immigrated from England to pursue a better life for their family. The family soon moved back to England to live with relatives, since the economic situation at the time was bleak. At age two, Marilyn moved to America with her parents, and older brother Paul, who was born in England. Although they had very few resources, the Morgans worked hard, and braved those difficult years to provide their children with the opportunity to acheive the American dream. Joe worked with Ford Motor Company as an engineer, and his family often was located and relocated, due to the frequent moving the company requested of Morgan. Joan often took up jobs typical of women at the time, babysitting and secretarial work. At the beginning, their only means of transportation was the bus, and they could only afford salvaged clothing. But from their early struggle, the Morgans were able to make a better life for themselves and their children. Marilyn attended elementary schools in both Kentucky and Michigan, and attended Northville High School, where she graduated. Trying to find herself, and her place in the world, Marilyn traveled around America. When she returned to Michigan, she went into sales, and spent many years in that line of work. She has remained a resident of Oakland County, Michigan, since then. Marilyn studied Liberal Arts at Oakland Community College . In 1981, she married Louis McGuinness, and had her first child, Michael, in 1984. The birth of her child changed Marilyn's perspective on life, and started her on her mission to better the quality of education for all children. But, Marilyn's husband suffered from mental illness, and on several occasions he suffered cylces of manic depression. Marilyn divorced in 1987, and moved in with her parents with Michael. She soon met her current husband, Dennis MacDermaid, a quality control expert and environmental auditor, and in 1990, they had a child, Devon; they married in 1991. With two children now, and Michael entering grade school, Marilyn devoted herself to her children, and became actively involved with her children's education. She worked with the PTA, and volunteered as head room mother, and helped with events such as parent-teacher conferences and the school's Art Fair. She helped organize and coordinate the Walled Lake Schools Parenting Education Fair, and received commendation for her volunteering efforts from the Oakland County Board of Commissioners. Marilyn also assisted with the Oakland County 4-H Art Program. Meanwhile, Marilyn further studied at OCC in small business management, and finally became an American citizen, after remaining a resident alien for years, when she became aware of how vital the right to vote was to protect what was important. Marilyn saw how important it truly was when she worked on passing a millage to support alleviating the overcrowdedness and condition of disrepair of Walled Lake Schools. She also assisted in the protest against Proctor & Gamble for their testing on animals, seeing as how she has been a lifelong animal lover, and currently has three cats, as well as two fish :) Marilyn, who had been psychically aware since she was a teenager, decided to develop and expand her awareness, and decided to pursue it as a career to help people help themselves with their physical, mental, and emotional problems. She became a professional astrologer, and tried to assist those in need. Later, Marilyn decided to start running psychic fairs, in order to help an even larger number of those in need of counseling. She became aware of the Green Party only recently, and immediately was drawn to the Four Pillars of Social Justice, Grassroots Democracy, Nonviolence, and Ecological Wisdom, as well as the Ten Key Values. Marilyn wanted to spread the word and help establish this sensible, progressive political alternative, so she decided to run for Congress. The Green Party was all about what she has been working toward, and fighting for all her life, and was excited to be able to help such a worthy cause.
