Mayoral Leadership

On January 5, 1997, A. Ralph Mollis was sworn into office for his first four-year term as Mayor of North Providence. Over the past 9 years, Mayor Mollis has been labeled as a hands-on, business oriented reformer with a long-range vision for his community. After serving as the sample community in 1995 for our current statewide “Optical Scan” voting equipment, Ralph immediately attended to ensuring all 18 of the community's polling places were handicapped accessible. The Board of Canvassers was awarded First Place from the National Organization on Disability for this accomplishment.

Under Mayor Mollis' leadership the town has become home to an outstanding school system. Two new Middle Schools were constructed and opened in 2002 and the newly renovated, state of the art High School received Accreditation as a shining example of outstanding high school education nationally.

In addition, the town has renovated and modernized it’s recreational facilities, completed an impressive Main Street Revitalization Program, become home to a new Post Office Park in the heart of Centredale and constructed a new, state of the art Senior Center which is the envy of the region.

Ralph's sound fiscal policies and financial success have been recognized by Standard & Poors, the world's foremost provider of independent credit ratinggs, as they increased the town's Bond Rating in June of 2001 and wrote “The towns financial operations are sound.” “…the town is on track to close with its sixth consecutive surplus in fiscal year 2003.” In addition, during Ralph’s tenure, the town has retired three bonds, balanced 7 consecutive Municipal Budgets from 1998 – 2004, reduced the town’s annual debt and eliminated an inherited deficit.
