| Info | WILLIAMS, Thomas, a Representative from Pennsylvania; born in Greensburg, Westmoreland County, Pa., August 28, 1806; attended the common schools, and was graduated from Dickinson College, Carlisle, Pa., in 1825; studied law; was admitted to the bar in 1828 and commenced practice in Greensburg, Pa.; moved to Pittsburgh, Pa., in 1832 and continued the practice of law; served in the State senate 1838-1841; elected as a Republican to the Thirty-eighth, Thirty-ninth, and Fortieth Congresses (March 4, 1863-March 3, 1869); one of the managers appointed by the House of Representatives in 1868 to conduct the impeachment proceedings against President Andrew Johnson; was not a candidate for renomination in 1868 to the Forty-first Congress, and lived in retirement until his death in Allegheny City, Pa., on June 16, 1872; interment in Allegheny Cemetery, Pittsburgh, Pa.
