DuPont de Nemours and Co., 1959-1976; innkeeper and small business owner; unsuccessful candidate in 1984 for the New Hampshire senate; delegate to the 1988 Republican National Convention; elected as a Republican to the One Hundred Second and to the two succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1991-January 3, 1997); was not a candidate in 1996 for reelection to the United States House of Representatives, but was an unsuccessful candidate for the gubernatorial nomination
