Burton and served from October 8, 1945, to November 5, 1946, when a successor was elected; was not a candidate for nomination to fill the vacancy in 1946, but was an unsuccessful candidate for election to the full term; vice president and director, Logan Clay Products Co., Logan, Ohio; director, later president and chairman of the board, Motorists Mutual Insurance Co. of Columbus, Ohio; member of board of trustees, Ohio State University 1951-1957; author; was a resident of Pickerington, Ohio, until his death on May 20, 1980.
