| Info | James Samuel Potts, Jr was born in the West End Baptist Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama in 1940. He is a fifth generation native. His parents are James and Margaret Earl Potts, now deceased.
He attended Montevallo Schools (Kindergarten through High School) beginning in 1947 and graduating from High School in May, 1959.
He joined the US Air Force in December, 1959. While enlisted in the service, he attended college at night at East Carolina College and the University of Hawaii. He was honorably discharged early from the service in September 1964 after which he attended San Jose State College and West Valley College. He later attended Redwoods College. His total credit hours were 158 semester hours.
He married Tommie Lou White who is also a native of Alabama. Her father, Samuel White, and his father, James Potts Sr, were both born in Bibb County. James had three daughters from a previous marriage: Denise, Kristina and Wendy Nicole. When they married, Tommie Lou was a widow with two children, Tammy and Ray Sudsberry.
James is a Republican and has 25 years experience as a Financial Professional in various capacities: Systems Design, Assistant Treasurer and Tax Collector, Controller of a Savings & Loan, Partner in a Mortgage Company and a Financial Advisor with Drexel Burnham Lambert.
James belonged to The Young Republicans in the late sixties, also Jaycees. Belonged to the Lions Club from 1974 to 1980(was club Treasurer 4 years). A member of the Alabama Cattleman's Association since 1988, a past county president (Bibb), a past regional v.p., and a member of the Alabama Farmer's Federation since 1990. Member of National Cattleman's Assc. and the Alabama Horseman's Assc.
James' hobbies include Fishing, Tennis, Horseback Riding, Sporting Clays, Skeet, Trap, Hiking, Canoeing, Alpine Skiing, Sailing and Hunting.
