Married Dena Mae Crisler on 4/1/1935; five children.
Faithful listener of the Sam Morris radio show "The Voice of Temperance." An uncle had died of intemperance.
Operated an electrical contracting and appliance business in Ava until 1954
Relocated to Colorado 1954 due to a chronic sinus disorder.
Candidate on the Prohibition ticket in Colorado in most elections 1978-92: Lt. Governor 1978 (2,198 votes) and 1982 (3,496 votes) and 1986 (8,183 votes) and 1990 (7,907 votes); U.S. Senate 1980 (7,265 votes) and 1984 (1,376 votes); and U.S. House 1992.
Treasurer, Prohibition National Committee 1983-1993. In 1993, he mentioned to an associate who was an attorney that although he was the treasurer, he was not allowed to handle the check book, had never signed a check, and had no information on the finances of the party. The attorney warned him to leave the post immediately.
Higgerson began an informal newsletter sharing his concerns regarding Dodge's management of the party in 1993. He was the first party member to accuse Earl Dodge of mismanaging the funds of the Prohibition Party.
Relocated to Arvada CO in 2004.
