U.S. Representative (D-OH) 1849-1853; was not a candidate for renomination.

Moved to Sandusky, Ohio, in 1853 and published the Daily Sandusky Minor; in 1857 established the American and later the Bulletin at Van Wert, Ohio; moved to Wauseon, Ohio, and established the Wauseon Republican; subsequently moved to Paulding, where he published the Political Review; died in Paulding, Ohio, May 1, 1880; interment in Live Oak Cemetery.
