| Info | Born near Lincolnton NC 10/25/1851. He maintained his legal residence there until his death although he had lived continuously at Raleigh beginning in 1905.

NC Supreme Court 1905-1925. When he took the oath, he replaced the last Republican to serve on the NC Supreme Court until the late 20th century.
Chief Justice, NC Supreme Court 1924-1925. Resigned from office due to ill health. His health improved noticeably thereafter, but he took a sudden turn for the worse and died on 9/13/1925.
