InfoI was born in Union West Virgina on February 14,1958. I was raised in a good Bible-believing Primitive Baptist family however I turned to alcohol and drugs as an early teenager. I was a thief and became the person parents warned their children to avoid. I went from marijuana to hard drugs like LSD. All that changed when I gave my life to Christ at the age of 17.

I attended Union High School graduating in 1976. I graduated from West Virginia University in 1980 with a Bachelor’s Degree and the Southern College of Optometry in 1985 with a Doctor of Optometry degree. I spent one year in between doing chemical analysis of the tannins in the blight resistant American Chestnut trees under a grant from Virginia Tech & Concord University.

While in optometry college I was elected to the student government all four years serving first as Class Vice-President, then Class President and then as the President of the Student Government Association my senior year. I was selected to the International Gold Key Honor Society and served on several college committees for planning. I represented my college at the American Optometric Association annual meeting in 1984. I also served as an officer and trip leader for the Student Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity organization’s trips to Belize and Costa Rica.

Upon graduating I returned to West Virginia and have been in private practice for over 38 years operating two offices in Princeton and Beckley employing two doctors and a dozen staff members. I have been privileged to be named Best Optometrist by the Bluefield Daily Telegraph’s Readers Choice awards two years running.

God first called me to run for office in the 2006 Election. Two years later, I was honored to be selected by the West Virginia GOP to serve as one of five people representing our great state as an Elector in the 2008 Presidential election. I currently serve the residents of Princeton as Chairman of the Building Commission. I am a conservative Christian supporting life from conception, traditional marriage and our Constitution including the Second Amendment right to own and bear arms. I believe in protecting our rights against all enemies domestic and foreign. And while we need good servants elected in our republic our first duty is to obey God’s laws and commandments. I am NOT a politician; I believe we need less partisan politics and more focus on the Word of God. A spiritual Revival is our only hope to save America. As your elected senator I will take the message of revival to Washington in service to my God and the people of West Virginia.

I am married to my soulmate of 34 Years, we have two children, 4 grandchildren and one grand dog. My family and I attend the Princeton Presbyterian Church where I serve as an Elder. I have published five books on biblical prophecy and the influence it has on America and our world. My Sixth, PRAY FIRST is set to be released in spring 2024 and can be pre-ordered on the website (www.zanelawhorn.com). My hobbies include spending time with family, hunting and watching WVU sports.
