InfoA native South Carolinian, Jonathan is an entrepreneur, educator, homeland security expert and reserve military officer. He is a graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law, former Director at the White House Homeland Security Council, and a Captain with the U.S. Air Force Reserves. Jonathan has been in public service for over 10 years, but this is his first time seeking to serve voters directly through elective office.
Service

Soon after graduating from the University of Virginia School of Law, Jonathan joined the U.S. Department of State, coordinating high level meetings for world leaders. He then joined the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) where he worked to secure our nation's borders and assisted local communities during times of disaster. Jonathan was instrumental in developing and implementing the highly successful Operation Jump Start plan, which deployed thousands of National Guard troops to our nation's border with Mexico to assist in cracking down on illegal immigration.

Based on his achievements at DHS, Jonathan was promoted to the White House under President George W. Bush to serve as a Director on the Homeland Security Council team responsible for the nation's border security policy in the post 9/11 environment.. His work at the White House included efforts to expand the use of E-Verify, 287(g) authority, and other voluntary illegal immigration control measures. Jonathan also launched a White House-led international working group of civic leaders and businesses dedicated to removing barriers to legal trade and travel across borders.

When his service at the White House and the Department of Homeland Security ended, Jonathan sought out further opportunities to continue serving his country. This led him to join the U.S. Air Force Reserves as a Staff Judge Advocate General (JAG). Jonathan is now a Captain assigned to the 628 ABW at Joint Base Charleston. Although he serves as a military prosecutor, much of his Air Force service is dedicated to assisting retirees, veterans, military members and their families with legal assistance, including helping them confront the difficult realities of the Obama economy.
Educator

Jonathan is an adjunct professor at the Citadel and the Charleston School of Law. He teaches Homeland Security and Domestic Terrorism courses to both Citadel cadets and graduate students, helping them prepare for careers in law enforcement and military service. At the Charleston School of Law he has taught courses in Immigration Law and Military Justice. Jonathan understands the concerns many parents, students and younger South Carolinians have about finding jobs in these uncertain economic times.
Entrepreneur

Recently, Jonathan co-founded Solitical, a technology firm devoted to increasing the ability of citizens to participate in elective politics and influence their elected and unelected officials alike. He has worked to make sure the voices of all citizens can be heard by those who serve the voters. Jonathan understands the needs of small business - specifically the tech industry - in the 1st District working to grow in these uncertain regulatory and economic times.
Platform

Jonathan is running for Congress because career-politicians have continuously made poor choices with our out-of-control deficit and debt, entitlements and taxes, regulations and rules that will diminish the future quality of life for hardworking South Carolinians. He wants to reign in the ever-expanding federal government, restore individual rights and opportunity, and ensure that all Americans - especially younger ones - have the potential to pursue their own American Dreams.
Deficit & Debt

Our country's greatest threat comes from misguided financial decisions by our own elected officials. In the past four years we have seen our nation pile up more than $4 trillion in additional debt, adding almost 50% to our nation's credit card bill, more than we acquired in total over the first 200 years since the founding of the Republic. Today, however, Jonathan knows that we can no longer wait for career politicians to make better choices about the deficit and debt — we need new leadership now.
Regulatory Reform

Jonathan is alarmed with the burdens of excessive regulations and government bureaucracy – and the more than a half a trillion dollars in new regulations the Obama Administration has added over the last four years – that are creating an inefficient and liberty suppressing centrally controlled economy. Jonathan will vote to reduce these job-crushing regulatory burdens on businesses.
Tax Reform

Jonathan knows the burden felt by small business owners and the self-employed who count every penny and dollar that goes to the federal government by way of higher taxes. He understands that taxes inhibit growth, and by reforming the tax code – lowering taxes, and closing loopholes and deductions to the lowest possible amount – we can spur more investment and economic activity.
Security

As a former Director at the White House Homeland Security Council responsible for the nation's border security policy, Jonathan is an experts in immigration issues and understands ways to curb illegal migration. Currently, he works with the most respected security-consulting firm in the nation assisting governments and businesses address threats from criminals and terrorists.
Constitutional Government

As someone who has taken an oath to defend the Constitution, Jonathan has watched in alarm as President Obama and Congressional Democrats have worked to undermine and assault core Constitutional principles. Jonathan will refuse to support legislation that violates the Constitution, and he supports a redefining of the relationship between the states and federal government that recognizes the 10th Amendment.
Why Jonathan?

South Carolina 1st District voters have the opportunity to send another Congressman to Washington who they can be proud to call their own. A vote for Jonathan is a vote for an experienced and effective citizen leader who is committed to ensuring a future of prosperity and freedom for all South Carolinians.
