InfoLANDERS, Franklin, a Representative from Indiana; born near the village of Landersdale, Morgan County, Ind., March 22, 1825; attended local schools; at the age of twenty-one engaged in teaching school; was associated with his brother in mercantile pursuits at Waverly, Ind.; laid out the town of Brooklyn, Ind., where he engaged in mercantile pursuits and stock raising; member of the State senate 1860-1864; moved to Indianapolis in 1865 and engaged in the dry-goods business; in 1873 became the head of a pork-packing house; elected as a Democrat to the Forty-fourth Congress (March 4, 1875-March 3, 1877); unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1876 and for election as Governor of Indiana in 1880; engaged in the management of his farming lands; died in Indianapolis, Ind., September 10, 1901; interment in Crown Hill Cemetery.
