InfoJanet DiFiore debuted as a life long Westchester resident at Mount Vernon Hospital in 1955. She grew up in Mount Vernon and attended Mount Vernon High School. She received her B.A. from C.W. Post College of Long Island University. She then attended St. John's University School of Law where she earned her J.D. degree and also met her future husband, Dennis Glazer. Today, she lives in Westchester with her husband and her three children who were also were born, raised and educated in Westchester County.

While in law school, Janet DiFiore was already looking to the Westchester District Attorney's Office for her career - first as a law student and then after she passed the New York bar as an Assistant District Attorney. She spent more than 10 years in the District Attorney's Office under the administrations of both Carl Vergari and Jeanine Pirro. For the last four and a half years that Janet DiFiore was in the DA's office, she was the Chief of the Narcotics Bureau, prosecuting some of the largest drug and drug money seizures in the history of Westchester County.

In 1998 Janet DiFiore was elected as a Judge of the Westchester County Court. After serving as County Court and Acting Family Court Judge for three years, she was elected in 2002 to the New York State Supreme Court by an overwhelming margin of victory. Later that year, because of her qualifications and experience, Janet DiFiore was appointed by the Chief Judge for the State of New York to serve as Supervising Judge for all the criminal trial courts in the 9th Judicial District which includes Westchester, Dutchess, Orange, Putnam and Rockland Counties. Under her direct leadership as Supervising Judge, for the first time in the history of the state court system, the criminal case backlog of the 9th Judicial District was cleared, bringing about speedy and just dispositions while serving the interest of victims and saving taxpayer dollars.

In May of this year Janet DiFiore resigned her Supreme Court Judgeship to run for District Attorney, even though she had more than eleven years left on a fourteen year term. Nothing illustrates Janet DiFiore's commitment to this race and to the District Attorney's Office more than the fact that she gave up an elected position as a Judge to run for District Attorney. The DA's Office is a very important part of our government. The work done by the District Attorney impacts the quality of life for each and every one of us as we go about our daily lives here in Westchester. It is the responsibility of the District Attorney to prosecute crimes committed in our county, and to be proactive in our community, finding ways to prevent crimes before they happen.
